Generating green energy and enhancing local nature

The first solar park in Vesthimmerland Municipality will generate green energy while being managed sustainably. Located next to the protected Navnsø Lake, it will be operated without pesticides or fertilizers, relying solely on natural manure from grazing animals. Better Energy, which has leased the site for 30 years, has signed a voluntary agreement with Denmark’s Nature Conservation Association to ensure the park remains environmentally sound throughout its lifetime. The agreement has been officially registered.

Who made Navnsø Solar Park a reality through power purchase

A voluntary agreement to ensure the local nature

We have proactively taken measures to protect the natural environment in ways that the municipality may not have initially considered. For instance, we ensured that solar panels were not placed in Natura 2000-protected areas. Furthermore, we commissioned an independent assessment to evaluate the potential impact on habitats for endangered amphibian species around Navnsø.

As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, we voluntarily agreed to operate the park without the use of pesticides or fertilisers, relying solely on natural manure from grazing animals.

Preservation of nature areas

Better Energy has shown the considerations towards nature that the municipality would not take, such as preserving those areas within the project area that are Natura 2000-protected.

The sheep make sure that grasses and herbs do not grow up and shade the panels. The animals get shelter from the solar panels and fresh grass, while the farmers take advantage of the open spaces.
