Radsted-Grænge Solar Park will contribute with more than green energy. Located in Guldborgsund Municipality in the southern parts of Denmark, the park features nature and recreational initiatives for the local residents and wildlife to enjoy.

Recreational initiatives for the local residents and wildlife to enjoy

Radsted-Grænge Solar Park was originally planned as two projects: 165 hectares in Radsted and 131 hectares in Grænge. The flat landscape is primarily farmland, with cultivated fields, shelterbelts, forested areas, and high-voltage power lines. Close collaboration with authorities and the local community resulted in a park design with initiatives that caters to the local community. The solar park will feature nature and recreational initiatives for the local residents and wildlife to enjoy.

Community and nature initiatives

Local dialogue

Close collaboration with Guldborgsund Municipality and the local community resulted in large sections of the solar park being strategically placed to minimise impact on nearby residents. Feedback from consultations was carefully considered, and efforts focused on nature initiatives and recreational features to develop a project with broad local support.

Recreational areas

Approximately 32 hectares across eight new recreational areas include nature elements such as apple and plum groves, flower meadows, nut hedges, and self-seeded forests.

Wildlife passages

Five wildlife passages will ensure the mobility of local wildlife.​

Town bog and forest edge

Town bog and forest edge will be established with paths and open nature areas featuring newly created small thickets and deadwood.

Walking trails

A new publicly accessible trail system of approximately 14 km will surround the solar park and give access to newly established recreational areas.

Grazing sheep

The sheep will make sure that grasses and herbs do not grow up and shade the panels. The animals will get shelter from the solar panels and fresh grass, while the farmers take advantage of the open spaces.​

Recreational rest areas will be available so you can enjoy food brought from home.

Flower meadow

Establishment of a flower meadow with a special seed mix, which will become a pantry of food for insects.

Natural hedgerows

Establishing planting belts around the solar areas of the park, creating visual shielding using native trees​ and shrubs.

Fruit orchard

A plum and apple orchard will be established north of Radsted at the perimeter of the project area, benefiting neighbours and providing the local community with green space.

Grazing sheep

In the northern part of the project, sheep will be able to graze within the fenced area. Farmers benefits from their sheep getting access to fresh grass and the sheep benefit from shelter under the panels.

Flower meadow

Southeast of the project area a flower meadow is part of the project’s recreational initiatives. The meadow will feature a specially selected flower mix designed to attract and support local pollinators.

Solar park integrated between lakes and forest

The planned Radsted-Grænge Solar Park project consists of two larger project areas, which together amount to 296 hectares.​ It was initially considered two seperate projects and later merged.

The landscape is flat and characterised by agricultural operations with cultivated fields. Within the project area there are several lakes. The surrounding landscape is characterised by cultivated fields, forest areas and individual homes.

The project has been selected for temporary grid connection, allowing new green electricity to be added to the Danish electricity grid already in 2025 instead of 2027 as originally scheduled.
