Vegetation initiatives
Vegetation in Better Energy solar parks is an going priority. That's why, we have developed our very own wildflower seed mix, and continue to experiment with native grass species.
Be2bee flower mix
At Better Energy we have created our own wildflower seed mix called Be2bee. It provides much needed pollen and foraging for pollinators in the flower deprived agricultural landscape. The mix of 21 native north-European species support pollinators by flowering from June till September.
Natural hedges provide visual screening
For its Danish parks, Better Energy hedges consist of native species like hawthorn, wild apples, and birch, providing pollen for pollinators in summer and fruit for birds in fall. The hedges serve as fauna passages in fragmented landscapes, facilitating species movement and gene exchange. Over time, they will also offer shelter and nesting sites for animals, as well as protection from predators. We also collaborate with neighbours to establish hedgerows to lessen the visual impact, blending projects seamlessly into the landscape.
Grass innovation
Better Energy only uses native species, and our vegetation mix consists of three species: two grass species and a white clover species. We also works on innovating vegetation in the parks, including a trial to include more flowers as well as a mix with more shine that can potentially increase solar energy.
